Rowan grew up in Ottawa, Ontario exploring the beautiful lakes of Algonquin and Gatineau Park before moving out west to attend the University of British Columbia. There she completed a BSc in Biology with a focus and interest on environmental management. Upon graduation, Rowan began her journey working in northern communities working as a research assistant for the communities of Arctic Bay and Pond Inlet in the public hearings process of the Mary River Mine. Rowan has also worked with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) helping to develop a nationwide monitoring system for Canada’s protected areas. Her experience at ECCC was highlighted by fieldwork helping to band songbirds.
Rowan has a strong interest in working with communities to build bridges between Indigenous and Western science as it applies to wildlife management. Rowan is excited to be a part of the SUN team and looking forward to contributing to the Goose Monitoring project in Arviat, Nunavut with the Aqqiumavvik Society.
While attending McMaster University, Rowan is competing internationally on the Canadian National Field Hockey Team. In her free time, she enjoys rock climbing, mountain biking, spending time outdoors and playing music.

Rowan is currently developing her research focus to support the Goose Monitoring to Restore Inuit Food Sovereignty project in Arviat, Nunavut.
