Pangnirtung, NU Nov 5 - 11, 2007

The main purpose of this trip was to provide public information sessions about the expansion of the Floe Edge Service in Pangnirtung, as well as to conduct a workshop about the service to refine the products to meet community needs.  Background on this service expansion is described in the online journal.  A few other highlights from this trip include:

  1. gorgeous views over Auyuittuq National Park and around Qikiqtarjuaq as we had to fly to Qik before landing in Pangnirtung

  2. not travelling alone (Mark Kapfer was the main presenter in the information sessions)

  3. the Floe Edge presentations and workshop - meeting new people and helping to bring the service to the community

  4. working with Andrew and Eric to visit with elders and hunters interviewed over the past few years, and their amazing support for expanding and building upon the sea ice project within ISIUOP to develop more accessible, online educational materials

  5. attending the Remembrance Day Ceremony at Attagoyuk High School

  6. staying with the Mearns’, being spoiled with curried stews and lots of movies, and meeting some of their friends at a birthday potluck

  7. catching up with Parks Canada staff and all their helpful tips for an upcoming trip in which my husband and I will be tourists in Auyuittuq National Park

  8. the always breath-taking views
